When planning your upcoming sailing trip, it is best to take the currents into account as well as the weather!  There is a strong tidal current in the North Sea. A current that is also caused by the tides, ebb and flow.
Below is the tide table for Cadzand-Bad for the 2025 sailing season.

From Cadzand, the current is East-north-east from 2 hours before until 3 hours after high tide. Then the current turns in a west-southwest direction from 2 hours before, to 3 hours after low tide (ebb). After the turnaround, the strength of the current builds steadily, to be at its strongest about 30 minutes after low tide (ebb), before weakening again to the next turnaround.
The larger the coefficient, the closer to full moon and the more powerful the current. The current can be up to 3 knots fast on the North Sea!

Sailing with the current is a lot faster than sailing against it. So it is best to take this into account when planning your sailing trip.
